Combining her previous careers in ballet, acting, and songwriting, Victoria Deiorio is a critically acclaimed sound designer and composer for theatre and film, based in Chicago. With a BFA in Musical Theatre from Syracuse University, and studying classical acting in London at RADA and LAMDA, she transitioned from the performance artistry to the technical. She has also written plays and musicals, directed, production managed, and produced theatre. Her compositions and sound design have been heard in many theatres over the past 18 years. She is the first woman to have been nominated for 13 Joseph Jefferson Awards - winning 7 - and she has received 2 After Dark Awards and a SALT Award. Victoria is the head of Sound Design at The Theatre School of DePaul University.
She now turns her focus of the creation and manipulation of space to interior design and architecture following the ideals of Biophilic Design. Her 17 years as a massage therapist and energy healer attunes her to how the body reacts to vibration. She brings all of this to the manipulation of the aural environment to better enhance day to day existence.

Sound design is a deep and thoughtful process of integration of all aspects of theatrical expression. Think of what is lost without the exchange of ideas and the depth of knowledge and experience the sound designer brings to the process. Collaborative directors and designers feed off of those thoughts from others and each one layers upon the previous one with respect to the artistry of each person’s addition. Last night there was an outpouring of disgust, sadness, confusion, anger, and frustration over a decision to again treat our field as though we are not as important as the rest of the team. This rush of emotion comes because this is not new to us at all. The amount of work in order to be validated by the Tony Awards as a category, which was instated in 2008, seems to have meant nothing at all if it suddenly goes away. It’s not about an award.
